EXPERT GUIDANCE
Follicular dendritic cell (FDC) prominence: Grade 3
This secondary follicle shows depletion of B-cells and a prominent proliferation of FDCs. The proliferation is very obvious when performing a CD21 immunostain.
Abbreviations
FDCs, follicular dendritic cells; H&E, hematoxylin and eosin.

EXPERT GUIDANCE
Follicular dendritic cell (FDC) prominence: Grade 1
FDCs are present in primary and secondary B-cell follicles and play an important role in the antigen presentation to maturing B-cells. They form a network with their arborizing process. In this secondary germinal center there are very sparse follicular dendritic cells. They are characterised by 1 or 2 large round vesicular nuclei with a solitary central nucleolus. The dendritic process can be illustrated by immunohistochemistry against CD21, CD23, CD35 or podoplanin.
